Jolie’s Fake Tattoos: A tribute to Churchill
July 8th, 2008, All Angelina Jolie, Angelina Jolie tattoos, Angelina's films,In the movie Wanted, Angelina Jolie kept all of her tattoos since she was playing an assassin who aims to kill one person to save thousands of people. Unlike her other movies where her skin is kept clean, Wanted needed to add more tattoos to Angelina’s character Fox.
In the film, Angelina sports two new tattoos, fake ones, on her arms. These tattoos came from a speech from the World War II Prime Minister during his first day in office in 1940.
According to the actress, they wanted to focus the fake tattoos on the movie’s theme, which would be related to the kind of justice her character believes in. “Strength of Will” is inked in one language, and added it in four other languages on Jolie’s arm. “Know Your Rights” is printed in English on the back of her neck, and again in Latin as well.
From Churchill’s speech, “We have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat”. In the movie, Angelina Jolie had ‘Toil’ and ‘Tears’ put in her arms.
Angelina Jolie admitted that she wasn’t used to adding more artwork to her real tattoos, since other movies required her to cover them up. She said, “Instead of taking mine away, which we have to do in every film, we ended up leaving mine and adding more.”
